Everyone has a right to decent housing, healthy food and clean clothes. But NONE OF THOSE THINGS ARE FREE. Our PRIMARY goal is to create affordable housing so people can have a safe place to live.
The cause of homelessness is an inability to pay for housing, so finding work to afford a safe place to live is the key to successful independent living. Our goal is to connect people with opportunities to increase their income to create a sustainable way of life.
veterans & first responders come first
The words “homeless” and “veteran” don’t belong in the same sentence. We believe that those who have risked their lives for the freedom and safety of others deserve more than just respect – they deserve a place to call home.
Food, Clothing & Supplies
Coordinating with area organizations that offer food, clothing and other supplies allows us to better meet people’s basic needs. Having one central online database that details locations and types of supplies makes for a much more efficient channel of provision.
KOINONIA: COMMUNITY THROUGH PARTICIPATING IN THE LIVES OF OTHERS
For I was hungry and
YOU gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and
YOU gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and
YOU invited me in, I needed clothes and
YOU clothed me, I was sick and
YOU looked after me, I was in prison and
YOU came to visit me.’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine,
YOU did for me.’ Matt 25: 35-40
Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. James 2:15
For those whose incomes are not expected to increase, such as those with disabilities or seniors with fixed incomes, we want to provide affordable permanent solutions.
For those who need a short-term, safe place to re-group or start over, such as rehab graduates, ex-offenders, low income families in crisis, and teens who have aged out of foster care, we provide room and board.
For those in emergency situations that require safe overnight shelter, such as the homeless living outside during dangerous weather, and families in emergency situations, we provide a bed and meals.
Though we serve a wide range of people, placement preference will always be given to those who have risked their lives for their country and their local community.

Jackie’s job is to ensure excellent and faithful stewardship over all of the resources entrusted to us, including handling all of the finances, donations and 501(c)3 requirements.
John’s heart is to personally minister to the residents, and connect their needs with resources in the community.
Melissa’s job is to make sure that everyone in and around Cherokee County knows about Koinonia Communities, whether they are a potential partner or resident.

Koinonia Communities is a vision which God gave to me (Penny Haynes) and my husband, Ronnie Haynes, about 15 years ago. But God spoke that it was time, and I had all the boldness and faith in the Read more about Welcome to Koinonia Communities[…]
